Afternoon tea at The Midland has been a stalwart of the Manchester social scene and has retained its popularity ever since the hotel opened in 1903. As with anything, it’s important to reflect changing times while retaining the best of tradition. In view of this, we’re delighted to introduce our new elegantly designed Tea Room.
As Manchester’s only setting specifically designed for, and dedicated to, afternoon tea, The Tea Room at The Midland is truly one of a kind. Served in opulent surroundings overlooking St Peter’s Square, The Tea Room possesses its own knowledgeable team and features a Chefs Counter where guests can view a member of the hotel’s expert pastry team skilfully prepare their afternoon tea before it is served fresh to their table.
A little history
The Midland Hotel has the richest history of all the hotels in Manchester. First opening its doors on 5th September 1903, the hotel was owned and run by The Midland Railway Company and even incorporated its own theatre.
Since its grand opening the hotel has had the pleasure of welcoming many a King, Queen, President and Rock Star and has been the host for many a special event including the rooftop wedding of Israel Seiff and Rebecca Marks (the daughter of the founder of Marks & Spencer) in 1910.
Today, this Grade II listed building is owned and operated by luxury hotel group, QHotels, and with its contemporary twist provides the perfect setting for our Traditional Afternoon Tea.
Food & Drink
Offering a fresh approach to traditional afternoon tea, The Tea Room works closely with local suppliers and takes pride in sourcing the highest quality ingredients. Guests can choose from an extensive selection of bespoke loose-leaf tea served with finely cut sandwiches, freshly baked scones with jam and clotted cream, and a range of delicate cakes and pastries.
A reason to celebrate? Our Royal Afternoon Tea, which includes a glass of Champagne, is the perfect way to mark any occasion and enjoy the quintessentially British pastime.
